Chelsea handed injury boost ahead of Bournemouth clash

The Blues have been missing one of their most important players for almost the whole start of the season.

Chelsea boss Xabi Alonso has confirmed that Moises Caicedo is fit and available to face Bournemouth in the Premier League this Saturday.

The midfielder has only been on the pitch for 14 minutes this season due to a calf injury, which he initially sustained in pre-season and then aggravated against Brighton in August.

“Yes, he is ready to go, finally,” Alonso revealed at Friday’s pre-match press conference. “We have used the time with Moises to get him back fit. He’s been training good.

“Anyone would miss a player of his quality and importance. We have missed him for sure and we are happy he is back and he feels better. We didn’t want to take risks for Brentford for example but he feels much better.”

Meanwhile, Cole Palmer (minor muscular issue), captain Reece James (hamstring), Joao Pedro (knee) and Marco Palestra (quadriceps) are available for selection against Bournemouth at Stamford Bridge after returning to training this week.

“Yes, they have been training,” said Alonso. “Some earlier than others. Marco Palestra as well. They have trained well and ready to go. For sure, we know they are key players and important.”

On Palmer, the Chelsea boss added: “He has trained this week and feels better. The most important thing for Cole is to be fully fit and enjoying his game.

“For the next part we have a good feeling with him and he is feeling better.”

Jamie Gittens, however, has been ruled out after suffering an ankle injury that forced him to withdraw from the England U21 squad.
