Chelsea boss Sarri gives Morata vote of confidence

Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri has revealed that he was impressed by Blues striker Alvaro Morataโ€™s latest pre-season showing against Inter Milan.

Morata became the Stamford Bridge outfits most expensive signing ever whenย he joined from Real Madrid in a ยฃ58 million deal last summer. The 25-year-old started his Chelsea career in excellent fashion, although he soon began to struggle for form and fitness, with the former Juventus attacker becoming visibly frustrated that longer the season went on.

It was widely expected that Morata leave the Premier League this summer, with moves to Serie A sides Juventus and AC Milan being mooted. However, Sarriโ€™s latest comments suggest he may still have a future at Stamford Bridge after all:

“I’m still waiting for the best Morata,” Sarri said after Chelseaโ€™s penalty shoot out victory over Inter Milan.

“In the first match [against Perth Glory] Morata did not play very well, in Australia.

“But tonight, especially in the first 30 minutes, he improved a lot. I am satisfied and I am very confident in him for the future.”
