France striker defends his abysmal shooting record at World Cup

France striker Olivier Giroud has been defending his poor record at this summers World Cup in Russia.

Despite being part of a Les Blues side that will face Croatia in the final tomorrow in the Luzhniki Stadium, the Chelsea star is yet to score a single goal. In fact, the former Arsenal striker has not even got a shot on target with his 13 attempts on goal.

“I missed efficiency, luck and something needed to score [against Belgium] but hopefully I can have it for the final,” Giroud said in the pre match press conference.

“I think I’m doing a good World Cup, I’ve assisted three times for goals but if we are a world champions and I don’t score, I’m OK with that.”

Although most Premier League fans will agree that Giroud has never been the most prolific of strikers, he has looked remarkably short of sharpness in the vast majority of France’s games…which of course means he’s almost certain to score in today’s final.
