Chelsea and Manchester United have missed out on the signing of Aleksandr Golovin, with the midfielder being confirmed to have joined AS Monaco.
The 22-year-old has been linked with a move to the Premier League duo over the course of the summer, and only enhanced his profile over the course of the summer with some fine performances for Russia at World Cup.
Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho was full of praise for the CSKA Moscow midfielder over the course of the tournament:
“If they look for example to Golovin, if they look to him, the first touch, the first control, the speed of the pass, always correct,” Mourinho told local children while in Russia.
While there weren’t reports of a bid being submitted by the Red Devil’s, Chelsea were claimed to have been in advanced negotiations for the playmaker.
However, it has now been confirmed that he has joined Ligue 1 club Monaco in a deal thought to be worth €30 million.
“I am very happy to sign for AS Monaco,” he told his new team’s website.
