Chelsea and Liverpool are going head-to-head in a bid to sign Borussia Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
The two Premier League giants are in a ‘tug of war’ according to The Sun, and have both made contact with the Bundesliga club regarding a potential transfer.
It is thought the the German Cup winners are open to selling the Gabon striker, who finished the season with the Bundesliga’s golden boot award, beating Robert Lewandowski to the title by a solitary goal.
Liverpool are claimed to be in pole position due to Jurgen Klopp relationship with the player, but the club’s American owners are believed to be reluctant to meet the club’s £65m valuation, or the players £180,000-a-week wage demands.
Meanwhile, the Daily Mirror claim that Chelsea are close to completing the signing of the striker, who scored 40 goals in all competitions for the Bundesliga club.
Chelsea are known to be looking for a new first choice striker ahead of the new campaign, with Diego Costa widely expected to leave. The Spanish striker has been left out of the travelling squad for the club’s pre-season trip to Asia, and is expected to return to Atletico Madrid, three years after leaving the club for Stamford Bridge.
They were left disappointed by Romelu Lukaku who chose to Manchester United rather than return to the club, and are now looking at alternatives.
Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata and Torino’s Andrea Belotti are both on Antonio Conte’s shortlist, but a move for Aubameyang could prove to be a cheaper and equally as potent option for the Champions.
Paris Saint-Germain have also been linked with a move for the 27-year-old, but pulled out after failing to agree personal terms.
