Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso says he has a plan for how to use Morgan Rogers and Cole Palmer in his team next season.
Rogers joined the Blues from Aston Villa last week for a club record transfer fee of £117 million, making him the most expensive English footballer of all time.
Alonso believes the attacking midfielder can make an “instant impact” at Stamford Bridge, but it is unclear how he and Palmer will fit into the starting lineup together given they play similar roles.
The two players are predominantly playmaking no.10’s, though Palmer can operate on the right wing while Rogers played on the left of a front three several times last season.

“In that position we needed an important player and I’m sure there were not many more better options than Morgan Rogers,” Alonso said.
“I think it means a lot to everyone, and for the players that are already here as well. They have a good feeling and they are looking forward to having him.
“You need players who can have that almost instant impact and I’m sure Morgan won’t need much time to adapt to the club, the system and his team-mates.
“That was the idea, to get a top player, and Morgan is one of them.
Alonso added: “I have a plan. I have an idea. I can see them linking really well.
“We need to have a good mix. If we get that balance right and those special players in the right positions, with good control, then we will be more competitive with and without the ball.”
