Chelsea have agreed a deal to sign Ajax defender Jorrel Hato for a fee of €43m (£37.1m).

Hato has been granted permission to travel to England to complete a medical and the formalities of his transfer to the Premier League.

Ajax have accepted an offer of €43m for the 19-year-old, who was named Eredivisie Talent of the Year for 2024/25.

The Dutch defender – who has made 111 senior appearances for Ajax – will sign a seven-year contract at Stamford Bridge.

Hato will provide competition and cover for Marc Cucurella at left-back and can also operate as a left-sided centre-back.

Last season, the defender scored twice and provided six assists in 31 league appearances for the Dutch side.

The teenager will become Chelsea’s ninth signing of the summer transfer window, following deals for Liam Delap, Joao Pedro, and Jamie Gittens, alongside the pre-arranged transfers of Estevao Willian, Mike Penders, Dario Essugo, Kendry Paez and Mamadou Sarr.
