UEFA has announced the Champions League Team of the year, as voted by you, the fans!
A record 8.8m fans voted for this the best 11 players of the previous calendar year, with The a Premier League having representatives being included for the first time since 2014. However, unsurprisingly its dominated by players from last season’s finalists Juventus and Real Madrid.
Goalkeeper
Gianluigi Buffon – Juventus
Could it have been anyone else? The Italian legend helped Juventus to the Champions League Final as he looked to win the one trophy that has eluded him for his whole career. Will 2018 be his year?
Defenders
Dani Alves – PSG
He may be playing for PSG, who stormed to the top of their group this season, but Alves was also crucial in Juventus’ run to the final.
Sergio Ramos – Real Madrid
The Real Madrid captain received the highest number of votes after leading Real Madrid to their third Champions League crown in four years.
Giorgio Chiellini – Juventus
The Italian veteran was crucial at the back for Juventus, in a defence that conceded just 10 Champions League goals in 2017, sadly four were in the final.
Marcelo – Juventus
The second highest voted for player behind Ramos, and undoubtedly the best left back in the world.

Kevin de Bruyne – Manchester City
The first ever Manchester City to make the team of the year after his impressive start to this season. Scored once and made three assists in this year’s group stages.
Toni Kroos – Real Madrid
Half of the best central midfield duo of the year?
Luka Modric – Real Madrid
The former Spurs star is the other half of the pretty formidable duo, and was voted the midfielder of the 2016/17 campaign.
Eden Hazard – Chelsea
The second Premier League player to make the team of the year. Wasn’t involved in last season’s tournament but has returned this year with three goals and two assists in just five starts.
Forwards
Lionel Messi – Barcelona
Always battling for the Balon d’Or with his great rival Cristiano Ronaldo and has had another fine year. Knocked out by finalists Juventus in the quarter finals, but has led the club to top of their group this season
Cristiano Ronaldo – Real Madrid
The best player in the world once again, European champion again. Was there ever any doubt that Cristiano Ronaldo would be included?
