Champions League Team of the Week from matchday three

Here is our Champions League team of the week from matchday three.

GK: Andre Onana – Man Utd

The Cameroonian goalkeeper has struggled in his first few months at Old Trafford, but Andre Onana was the hero on an emotional night for Manchester United when he saved Jordan Larsson’s penalty in the 97th minute. It secured his clean sheet, victory for the team, and may saved their Champions League campaign from complete disaster.

RB: Joao Cancelo – Barcelona

Joao Cancelo’s redemption arc continues apace at Barcelona, where he put in another top performance in midweek. The Portuguese full-back not only set up his compatriot Joao Felix with a lovely cross, but he also led his team in touches and completed 100 percent of his passes in the final third against Shakhtar Donetsk.

CB: Mats Hummels – Borussia Dortmund

Newcastle United have been unstoppable at St James’ Park lately, which makes Dortmund’s victory and clean sheet at the ground this week all the more impressive. Mats Hummels was rock solid in the centre of defence as the Magpies failed to create any clear cut chances.

CB: Kevin Danso – RC Lens

Lens were perhaps unlucky not to come away with the win against PSV Eindhoven on Tuesday after limiting the Dutch side to very low percentage chances. Kevin Danso made an incredible 12 ball recoveries as part of that defensive effort.

MID: Warren Zaire-Emery – PSG (two assists, 3 in 3 CL games)

Paris Saint-Germain’s frontline grabbed the goals as the French side beat AC Milan 3-0, but Warren Zaire-Emery won most of the plaudits by assisting two of them, meaning he now has three assists in three Champions League games. And he’s only 17-years-old!

Newcastle suffer double blow ahead of Arsenal & Man Utd

FWD: Evanilson – FC Porto

Evanilson was subbed on just before halftime of Porto’s clash with Royal Antwerp. He went on to score a second half hat-trick. It has to be one of the great impact substitutions in recent memory.

FWD: Santiago Gimenez – Feyenoord

Santiago Gimenez scored twice to give Feyenoord a huge 3-1 win over Group D rivals Lazio on Wednesday, and he could have a hat-trick only his 25th-minute strike was ruled offside. The Dutch side are now in the driving seat of a very tight group.

FWD: Gabriel Jesus – Arsenal

Gabriel Jesus put in arguably his most complete performance on Tuesday to lead Arsenal to a 2-1 away win over Sevilla. The Brazilian’s assist for Gabriel Martinelli’s opener was sublime, while his finish for the second was sensational.
