Celtic and Motherwell meet in the Scottish Premiership at Celtic Park on Saturday, with the hosts looking to stay towards the top end of the table.

The Celts’ recent form has been generally positive, if a little up and down, but they remain well placed in the league. They have picked up good results against Aberdeen and Stuttgart, and have also drawn twice with Rangers in the league and cup. Their latest big game finished 0-0 against Rangers in the Scottish Cup, before Celtic went through 4–2 on penalties in the quarter-final.

Although they have suffered one league defeat to Hibernian in this period, they are still one of the division’s most productive attacking teams, having scored more than 50 league goals this season. In total, they have won four of their last six league fixtures.

Celtic team news

Martin O’Neill continues to be without several players for the long term. Centre-back Cameron Carter-Vickers and winger Jota are both expected to miss the rest of the season, with Carter-Vickers recovering from an Achilles problem and Jota from a cruciate ligament injury that is unlikely to clear up before the summer.

Right-back Alistair Johnston and young forward Callum Osmand are also out until the end of March because of hamstring injuries.

In addition, Auston Trusty is suspended for this game. Adam Montgomery, Arne Engels and Callum McGregor are all ruled out as well, while Kasper Schmeichel is still a doubt.
