Carrick ‘absolutely delighted’ with Man Utd transfer business

The Red Devils only signed three new outfielders for £163m.

Michael Carrick believes Man Utd have made the most of the money they spent in the summer transfer window after conducting “some really good business”.

The Red Devils spent around £163 million on three new signings – Carlos Baleba, Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos – while Karl Darlow arrived on a free transfer.

The club’s summer expenditure was relatively modest compared to many of their Premier League rivals; they had the tenth-highest spend, behind promoted duo Hull City and Ipswich Town, and the eighth-largest net spend.

United‘s financial situation restricted them from splurging more than they did, meaning they could not buy a new left-back, leaving Luke Shaw as their only option in that position.

Carrick, though, remains positive about the work they have done in the market, insisting that he is “absolutely delighted” with the players that have arrived at the club.

“We went into the window wanting to come out stronger from the group we had last season and we have definitely added to that, a lot of good work in that respect and the situation is what it is in terms of finances and what we can work with,” he said ahead of Sunday’s clash with Everton.

“Certainly the players we have brought into the group absolutely delighted with, think we have done some really good business.

“You can always look at it and think there are other things we could have done or might have done, but some things become available.

“Largely, I think we are in a good place with the squad, we have players that are flexible throughout the team can play in different positions as and when needed.”

Carrick added: “Whatever the amount is, you want to make the most of it and I think for what we have spent we have made the most of it, without a shadow of a doubt.

“I only focus on ourselves and think we have done that.”
