Arsenal fan’s voted with their feet last night as thousands of supporters failed to show up to the Emirates to witness yet another disappointing 3-0 defeat to Manchester City.
It seems that Gunners fans have now become almost apathetic to their team’s struggles. Arsene Wenger sat rooted to his seat afraid to venture out into his technical area for fear of abuse from fans, as his side were again ripped to shreds by Pep Guardiola’s superb attacking outfit.
Despite, signing a two year deal last summer, last weekend’s defeat in the Carabao Cup final, and seeing the Emirates with thousands of empty seats last night, was the clearest indication yet that the position of Arsenal’s French coach is becoming almost untenable.
Speaking after the game Sky Sports Pundit Jamie Carragher admitted last night felt like the end for Wenger, although he believes the experienced manager still deserves massive respect for his previous achievements at the club.
‘The Arsenal fans aren’t actually interested’,
‘There were a few boos at the end. Last season was anger but now it’s almost like resignation.
‘Very few Arsenal fans want him as manager. When I was playing you were like “wow” he’s a legend but they have to change it. It has to be done.
‘Make the decision now and try to give this fella a send-off. At this moment it isn’t good enough and there has to be change.’
It felt like the end watching that tonight.’ Carragher said.
Arsenal now sit in sixth in the Premier League table, and look on course to finish in their worst position for over 20 years.
