Carragher makes Carrick prediction after Man Utd beat Brentford

Jamie Carragher has predicted Michael Carrick will land the Man Utd job on a permanent basis at the end of the season after guiding the team to victory over Brentford.

Casemiro and Benjamin Sesko both scored at Old Trafford on Monday evening and the Red Devils held on for the win after Mathias Jensen pulled one back with an excellent finish in the second half.

The result moved United back into third place ahead of Liverpool in the Premier League table, taking them closer to Champions League qualification. They are now 11 points ahead of Brighton in sixth.

Jamie Carragher predicts Michael Carrick will get Man Utd job

With nine wins from 13 games since replacing Ruben Amorim on an interim basis, Carrick’s claim for the position beyond this season continues to grow.

Carragher believes it is now inevitable the former Man Utd midfielder will be given the job in the summer, so impressive have the results been under his leadership.

“He’s going to be the Manchester United manager, certainly next season, no doubt about that – and you can’t say he doesn’t deserve it,” the pundit told Sky Sports.

“They are absolutely sensational results. They’re the results of a title-winning team, or a team going for the league.

“Now I know that pressure isn’t on Manchester United right now, they haven’t got European fixtures, all these other things will come into it, but I don’t think anybody could have come in and done any better results-wise.

“The biggest criticism of Ruben Amorim was that he never adapted, Carrick has shown he can adapt.”
