Jamie Carragher believes Manchester City’s trip to face Manchester United on April 24 could be the decisive fixture in this season’s title race.
Liverpool beat Tottenham 2-1 at Anfield on Sunday to return to the top of the Premier League, and now lead second-placed Man City by two points having played a game more.
Former Liverpool defender Carragher believes the title race will go down to the wire and thinks the upcoming Manchester derby at Old Trafford will have a significant say in the destination of the title.
“I think it will go down to the wire,” Carragher told Sky Sports.
“Liverpool have the tougher fixtures over the next two or three weeks. If they come out the other side of that in the same position, they can force City to have to win at Old Trafford.
“I think that’s what a lot of Liverpool fans are looking at – that game at Old Trafford.
“I know Manchester United fans are desperate for Liverpool not to win the league but City have a great chance of winning the Quadruple which would topple United’s Treble from ’99.
“It’s a big dilemma for United fans. Would you rather Liverpool win the league or City win the Quadruple? Hopefully a lot of them may change their opinions and try to get a decent result against City.”
Liverpool face Chelsea, Cardiff and Huddersfield before City’s trip to face Manchester United.
