Carragher labels £45 million Everton star Sigurdsson a ‘luxury.’

Jamie Carragher has stated that Everton’s £45 million playmaker Glyfi Sigurdsson has not done enough to justify his hefty price tag and that the Iceland international is currently little more than a luxury player.

Sigurdsson became Everton’s record signing when he moved to Goodison Park from relegated Swansea City in the summer of 2017.

However, he has only managed to score five goals and provide four assists in 34 Premier League appearances so far during his Toffees career, with Carragher claiming that these type of stats just aren’t good enough from such an experienced player.

“If you look at his stats he’s a luxury,” Carragher told Sky Sports following Everton’s 2-0 defeat to Arsenal yesterday.

“£45 million is massive for Everton, they’ve got to be getting a lot more from him.

“We’re not talking about a young player, he’s 29. He’s got to be doing it now. What they have got back from him for £45 million is not enough.”
