Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher reckons that Switzerland international Xherdan Shaqiri will turn out to be a brilliant signing for his former club.
The 26-year-old attacker moved to Anfield in a cut-price £13.5 million move from relegated Stoke City and while nobody would dispute that the former Bayern Munich man has immense talent, many have questioned whether he has the required work-rate that Reds boss Jurgen Klopp demands from his player.
However, former Liverpool defender Carragher has been impressed by Shaqiri during the substitute appearances he has made so far this season in the Premier League and reckons his experience can be a real positive of the Anfield outfit.
“I think it’s a brilliant buy for Liverpool,” Carragher told Sky Sports following Switzerland’s 1-0 defeat to England on Tuesday.
“He’s been around a long time at big clubs and has great experience.
“You look at the price tag, his age as well, he will (make an impact). He made an impact at Leicester when he came on.
“It’s one of those buys where even if it doesn’t work out, there’s no way they’re not going to get their money back. So I think it works for everyone really.
“He did make a difference when he came on (against Leicester). He plays more centrally for Switzerland, so maybe that’s something going forward for Liverpool also.”
