Premier League new boys Burnley have won the race to sign Belgian midfielder Steven Defour, who will join the club next week in a £6million deal.

The midfielder has been looking for a route of of Belgian club Anderlecht after suffering abuse from the club’s fans regarding to his time with their bitter rivals Standard Liege.

Burnley have been on the lookout for a new central midfielder ahead of their season back in the Premier League following the departure of Joey Barton to Rangers this summer, and now seem to have got their man.

They have beaten off competition from Southampton who were also keen on the players signature.

Defour was highly rated during his early career and was tracked by Manchester United, before a serious injury halted his career temporarily before he moved to FC Porto. He returned to his homeland in 2014 but now wants to quit the club.
