Bruno Guimaraes has hinted at a future exit from Newcastle after admitting he has ‘other goals’ in his career.
The Brazilian has been a big hit since arriving at St James’ Park from Lyon for a fee of £40m in 2022, establishing himself as one of the most impressive midfielders in the Premier League.
The 26-year-old was an influential presence as Newcastle secured a top-four finish and Champions League qualification last season and his performances have attracted admiring glances from a number of clubs, including Premier League rivals Liverpool, Manchester City and Chelsea.
Newcastle have been linked with the sale of a leading name in the summer transfer window as the Magpies look to comply with the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules.
Eddie Howe’s side recorded a post-tax loss of £73.4m for the 12 months ending 30 June 2023 and Guimaraes, who has a reported release clause in the region of £100m, has been mooted as a potential exit to balance the books.
Guimaraes – who featured as Brazil beat England in a friendly at Wembley on Saturday evening – has continually reiterated his happiness with life in the North East, having become a huge fans’ favourite, though has suggested there are ‘other goals’ he wants to achieve.
“It’s always been my dream to play here [England]. I’ve always followed the Premier League, it was always my dream to be here,” he told reporters, via Sky Sports.
“I think ever since I joined Newcastle everything’s been good in my life, professionally and personally.
“I’m very happy to be playing amongst the best in the best league in the world. I absolutely plan to play here for a long time, but I have other goals as well of moving.
“But this is something more down the line, I’m really happy to be here in the league.”
