Bruno Fernandes celebrated a “positive win” for Portugal over Wales, a game in which they had a “point to prove” after the FIFA World Cup.
Joao Felix scored the only goal of the game in the 22nd minute to get their UEFA nations League campaign off to a winning start in Lisbon. Cristiano Ronaldo had a goal ruled for offside by VAR in the second half.
It is their first victory since losing to eventual champions Spain in the round of 16 of the World Cup this past summer.

“I think it was a very good game,” Fernandes told BBC Wales. “We controlled it and had a lot of chances but were not capable of scoring more. We wanted the three points and got that.
“We always have a point to prove. The expectations are high on ourselves. It’s a positive win for us.
“We knew they (Wales) were good. If they play in the Premier League, they need to be at a high level.
“We knew they could cause us problems. We scored one, and we didn’t concede. That’s the big thing.”
