Bruce left impressed with ‘terrific’ Rolando Aarons as Sheffield Wednesday win in ‘horrible’ condidtions

Steve Bruce has praised ‘terrific’ Rolando Aarons after the on-loan Newcastle winger’s performance in Sheffield Wednesday’s 2-0 win at Bolton on Tuesday night.

Goals from Aarons and Steven Fletcher moved in-form Wednesday to within three points of the play-off positions, with Bruce’s side now unbeaten in nine games.

Following the win, Bruce was full of praise for 23-year-old Aarons, with the weather making conditions difficult at the Macron Stadium as Wednesday ground out a win against their struggling opponents.

“The whole game hinged on the first goal and what a real bit of quality that was, and to be fair in the first half it was the only real bit of quality,” Bruce told BBC Radio Sheffield.

“You probably wouldn’t send out a lifeboat in that. It was horrible – wind, swirling rain and a horrible pitch – it’s your worst nightmare as a footballer.

“However, the one real bit of quality changed the whole game and in the second half we had a real swagger about us, which was nice to see.

“And Rolando, who has had a really big impact on us, has capped off a memorable night for him because he was terrific in the second half in particular.”
