Brighton travel to the Stadium of Light on Saturday third in the Premier League, with a division-high 16 goals from five games. Fabian Hurzeler’s side are on 10 points, while Sunderland are 14th on four.
Brighton won 1-0 at Sunderland in March through a Yankuba Minteh goal and have kept a clean sheet in each of their last three games against them. Minteh is out with a calf injury this time.
Brighton team news
Minteh (calf), Stefanos Tzimas (knee), Pascal Struijk (thigh) and Evan Ferguson (ankle) remain unavailable. Jack Hinshelwood (unspecified), Kaoru Mitoma and Femi Azeez (both thigh), Mats Wieffer (knee), Yasin Ayari (illness) and Zadok Yohanna (unspecified) will be assessed before kick-off.
Lewis Dunk missed the 3-0 win over Arsenal with a neck injury but returned to training earlier this week and could be ready to face Sunderland. His return could see him replace the injured Struijk alongside Luka Vuskovic at centre-back.
Hurzeler is unlikely to make many changes to the side that beat Arsenal. Ferdi Kadıoğlu and Olivier Boscagli could complete the back four as full-backs. Pascal Gross, 35, who was named the Premier League’s Player of the Month for September, is set to feature in midfield. Charalampos Kostoulas has three goals and two assists in his last three appearances and is expected to start up front, leaving Georginio Rutter on the bench.
Brighton predicted lineup
Brighton possible starting XI: Verbruggen; Kadıoğlu, Vuskovic, Dunk, Boscagli; Gross, Ayari; Gomez, Yalcouye, De Cuyper; Kostoulas
