Brighton have reached a verbal agreement with Barcelona to sign Ansu Fati on a season-long loan deal.
Roberto De Zerbi’s side look set to beat Tottenham to the signing of the 20-year-old, who is free to leave Barcelona in search of regular first-team football. Chelsea are also understood to have been offered the chance to sign Fati, but are pushing to sign Cole Palmer from Manchester City.
Fati is viewed as one of Spanish football’s brightest talents and became the national team’s youngest ever goalscorer when netting against Ukraine, aged 17 years and 311 days, in 2020.
Injuries and competition for places has seen his progress stall and Fati is set to sign on loan for Brighton in a bid to kickstart his career.
Fabrizio Romano is reporting that an agreement has been reached for Fati to move to the Premier League, though no buy option has been included as part of the deal.
De Zerbi is understood to have been a key factor in the winger’s decision and Brighton are pushing to get the deal finalised amid interest from other clubs.
Fati has scored 29 goals in 112 appearances for Barcelona since his senior debut and has netted twice in nine caps for Spain at international level.
