Brentford have ‘no fear of relegation’ following Sheffield United win

Brentford moved one step closer to securing their Premier League status for another season by beating Sheffield United on Saturday.

An Oliver Arblaster own goal broke the deadlock after 62 minutes before Frank Onyeka secured the Bees‘ first win in nine games with his first goal for the club in stoppage time.

Mathias Jorgensen, also known as Zanka, says they are not taking anything for granted with five games to go, but insists the west London outfit hold no fear of relegation.

“It’s been a while since we had a win even though we feel like we have performed very well,” Zanka told BBC Match of the Day after the final whistle.

“Without being way better than them, we were the better team. From our side, it’s a deserved win.

“We have felt a bit unlucky throughout the season so it was very good to see it go our way today. For the confidence boost, we need the three points. Sometimes you just need a bit of luck to get the three points.

“It was the right time to get the win before the last five games. There’s not any fear in the squad about relegation.

“Obviously we’re aware we have not been too far away from it and anything can happen but we will take it one game at a time.”

Brentford boss Thomas Frank was a mightily relieved man after his side put themselves seven points clear of the dropzone.

“It feels so good,” he told MOTD. “Nine games we’ve been without a win and I’ve just been saying to the lads ‘please don’t do that to me or yourself again’.

“Everyone was talking about finals. I didn’t do that about this game. It was not a final but this is so important. Today was not through the roof but I think it was a good performance.

“This has definitely been the most challenging season. Injuries, actually performing quite good, Ivan’s been banned… all of that. It’s been tough but it just reminds you why it is the best league in the world. It’s so difficult.”
