On Saturday, India and Brazil will meet for the first time ever in a senior men’s international friendly at Kolkata’s Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan (Salt Lake Stadium).

Brazil arrive in strong condition, having gone through their last six games with the record L-W-W-W-D-W. After a disappointing round-of-16 elimination by Norway at the 2026 World Cup, the Seleção have regrouped under head coach Carlo Ancelotti. In their most recent international window, they played two friendlies against Australia: the opening match ended in a close 1–1 draw, while the return fixture saw Brazil run out comfortable 4–2 winners.

Brazil team news

Ancelotti will be missing Barcelona winger Raphinha, who pulled out of the 26-player experimental squad because of a right-thigh injury sustained against Australia; he has returned to Spain for treatment, and no replacement has been summoned.

Raphinha joins Chelsea’s Joao Pedro and Roma’s Wesley on the injury list for this camp. Even without them, Brazil’s roster remains packed with elite talent, led by Real Madrid star Vinicius Junior and teenage forwards Endrick and Estevao Willian.

At the back, seasoned defenders Marquinhos and Gabriel Magalhaes are expected to lead the line, while Arsenal midfielder Bruno Guimaraes is set to dictate play in the centre of the park.

Fluminense forward Gabriel Martinelli has been added to the squad as a late call-up. Ancelotti is likely to deploy an attacking 4-3-3 formation aimed at controlling possession and making the most of wide areas.

As overwhelming favourites, Brazil are expected to use their technical quality and intense pressing to try to unsettle India’s defence from the outset
