Borussia Dortmund head to the SNP Arena in Sinsheim on Saturday for their next Bundesliga fixture against Hoffenheim.

Under Niko Kovac, Dortmund have made a bright attacking start, scoring eight goals across their first three competitive games. Their league results show sturdy domestic form, highlighted by a key 2-0 win over Hamburger SV in recent Bundesliga action. The only setback so far came in the German Supercup, where they lost narrowly 2-1 to rivals Bayern Munich as they built momentum for the season.

Borussia Dortmund team news

Dortmund arrive with serious defensive problems, leaving Kovac with a much-thinned squad.

Emre Can is fully unavailable after suffering an ACL injury and remains out. Centre-back Nico Schlotterbeck has only just resumed light training following a World Cup-related injury and is not match-ready yet.

Ramy Bensebaini is also doubtful and will undergo a late fitness check because of an ongoing rib issue.

In midfield and attack, the injury list is equally heavy. Summer arrival Giannis Konstantelias is sidelined for months after tearing his ACL on his Bundesliga debut, and he joins Justin Lerma among those on the treatment table.

Up front, teenage striker Samuele Inacio is suspended after picking up a red card recently.

To help soften the impact of these absences, deadline-day midfield addition Ethan Nwaneri has travelled with the group and could be in line to feature.
