Manchester United have been handed an injury boost with Jose Mourinho confirming that Spanish midfielder Ander Herrera has recovered from the ankle injury that has made him unavailable for selection for his clubs last few games.

The Red Devils slipped to a disappointing home draw to newly-promoted Wolves in the Premier League last weekend and will face Frank Lampard’s Derby in the League Cup tomorrow at Old Trafford.

Mourinho is expected to rotate his squad for today’s game and with the Portuguese coach confirming that Herrera is fit for selection, it means that defender Marcos Rojo and young attacker Marcus Rashford are the only first-team players currently unavailable.

“Ander is ready,” Mourinho told MUTV.

“Marcos Rojo is the only player that is not available through injury and it’s Marcus Rashford’s last suspension match.

“I’m just thinking about the matches and this one is a cup match and the rules change. After a draw, you go straight to a penalty shootout, which obviously is a 50-50 situation.

“So it is a match of 90 minutes, which we have to try and win, and the choice of the players is based on that.”
