Manchester United have been dealt a blow in their pursuit of a new central defender after the agent of Milan Skriniar revealed the Inter Milan defender is close to signing a new contract at the San Siro.
United are rumoured to have targeted the 23-year-old Slovakian to bolster their defensive ranks, but with a new contract imminent at the Serie A club, Jose Mourinho may have to look at alternatives.
“He is happy with the Nerazzurri shirt, he is playing well but he is aware that there are some difficulties in Serie A. Inter have won seven games in a row, before the stop against Atalanta,” Skriniar’s agent Karol Csonto told TMW.
“He is doing well, I’m happy. He is happy to play the Champions League, clearly the goal is to grow with the team and improve day after day.
“New contract is in sight, we’re talking about it, we’re working on it, it’s a topic we’ll face more intensively over the next few months.”
Skriniar’s current contract is believed to run until 2022.
