Big Sam reveals why he gets ‘jealous’ of ‘great guy’ Guardiola

Sam Allardyce has revealed why he gets ‘jealous’ of Pep Guardiola, as Leeds prepare to face Manchester City in the Premier League this weekend.

Allardyce was appointed as Leeds manager this week on a deal until the end of the season, with the 68-year-old tasked with ensuring the club avoid relegation.

Leeds are without a win in five Premier League games and conceded a record-breaking 23 goals in April, form which saw Javi Gracia sacked after just two-and-a-half months in charge at Elland Road.

Allardyce faces a difficult challenge in his first fixture in charge as Leeds take on Manchester City. Ahead of the clash, Allardyce discussed his relationship with City boss Pep Guardiola and praised the Spaniard as a ‘great guy’ though admitted he gets a little envious of Guardiola’s accomplishments and accolades.

“We’ve always got on throughout the years he has been here,” Big Sam told his pre-match press conference.

”I have obviously met him at the LMA [League Managers Association] events and stuff like that, especially when he wins it [the manager of the year award]. I get a bit jealous then, but there you go.

“He’s a great guy and his knowledge is fantastic, from what he has done and achieved. It’s great to be pitting your wits against coaches like him and in the Premier League in general.

”If you want to be a player or a coach or a physio or sports psychologist, the Premier League is the only place to be in this country.”
