Everton have been linked with a move for soon to be out of contract Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere for some weeks now.

The England international’s contract at the Emirates is set to expire in June. Arsenal are said to be have offered the 26-year-old a new deal, although he has rejected it as the club are asking him to take a wage cut on his current £120,000 a week deal.

Although Big Sam refused to comment on any potential deal he did talk about Wilshere in glowing terms recently on BBC 5 Live when the Toffees manager said:

“I can’t comment on that, you’re not supposed to be talking about that,”

“I’ve always admired him, oh yes.”

“I’ve seen a big difference in Jack Wilshere recently, in his frame, in his body,”

“He looks like he has really got the bit between his teeth.

“He looks a lot fitter than he was and he is leaner in his face. He looks like he’s had a real go off the field, with his diet and extra training, to overcome his injury problems and prove what a great player he is.

“Hopefully if he is over his problems, whether it’s Arsenal or another club, we all hope he has a long career ahead of him.”

Allardyche’s comments did come however before the most predictable news ever, that Wilshere has picked up yet another injury while training with England ahead of their friendlies with Holland and Italy.
