Rafa Benitez today discussed whey he prefers Salomon Rondon as his main striker ahead of Aleksandar Mitrovic.
Mitrovic, 24, joined Fulham during the summer after an impressive loan spell at Craven Cottage during the second half of last season.
In Mitrovic’s absence, Newcastle’s Venezuelan international striker, Rondon, has stepped up and his form has been greatly improving during the last couple of months.
Benitez spoke about Mitrovic today before his side faces Fulham in the Premier League this weekend and he wished the Serbian striker well, stating that Serbia international has nothing to prove.
“He is doing well and he has nothing to prove. I wish him all the best after this game,” Benitez told his pre-match press conference.
“He suits Fulham’s style of play and he will give everything, Rondon is a strong centre-forward with more mobility (than Mitro), which is what we were looking for”
Rondon has four goals in 10 league starts for Newcastle this season and Mitrovic has scored seven in 17 for Fulham.
