Rafael Benitez says he is pleased with the impact of record-signing Miguel Almiron, saying the Paraguayan has brought ‘something different’ to the Newcastle attack.
The attacking midfielder was signed for a club-record £20m from MLS side Atlanta United in January, and has impressed in tandem with Ayoze Perez and Salomon Rondon in the Newcastle frontline.
“Miguel Almiron has given us something different in attack, and with the fans and players together – fighting with that belief and that confidence – you have more chances to get points,” Benitez told his pre-match press conference ahead of his sides home clash with Crystal Palace.
Benitez also gave an update on midfielder Jonjo Shelvey, the six-cap England international having fallen out-of-favour this season.
The 27-year-old appeared as a substitute during the recent fixtures with Everton and Bournemouth, and Benitez says the former Liverpool player ‘wants to play’.
“I was talking to him today – he is telling me he is ready and wants to play,” Benitez added.
“We have to decide, depending on him and the other players. But he loves football and wants to play.”
