Benitez credits Newcastle home form to fans’ passion

Rafael Benitez has hailed Newcastle’s home support, saying the ‘passion’ from the crowd is helping his side after their impressive recent form.

Newcastle host Everton this weekend looking to maintain their recent strong showings at St James’ Park, Benitez’s side having won four consecutive home league fixtures.

Benitez was quick to praise the Newcastle support for their contribution to his side’s recent successes, hailing the ‘positive’ atmosphere at the club.

“At the beginning we played top sides, but now we have gained confidence we didn’t have before,” Benitez said in his pre-match press conference.

“The team is playing well, the fans are supporting the players and the atmosphere has been positive.

“The passion is helping us.”

Newcastle head into their fixture with Everton having been dealt a blow with the news that young midfielder Sean Longstaff looks set to miss the remainder of the season with a knee injury.

Defender Ciaran Clarke and goalkeeper Rob Elliott also remain absent with respective knee and back injuries.
