Bayern Munich are ready to step up their pursuit of Leroy Sane with the club ‘weighing up’ an offer in excess of £50m to sign the winger from Manchester City.
Sane has been a long term target for the Bundesliga champions and will have just one year remaining on his contract at the Etihad this summer, with Bayern hopeful of securing a deal to bring the 24-year-old back to Germany once the transfer window opens.
Speculation in Germany suggested that the Bavarian’s had tabled a low opening offer of just £35m for the Germany international, though Man City have ‘made it clear’ it will take a significantly improved offer to tempt the club into a sale despite the winger’s contract situation.
According to the Telegraph, Bayern have accepted they will not be able to land their primary target on the cheap and are now preparing an improved offer, believing it could ‘require a package worth around €65m (£56.75m) to complete a deal’.
Sane has missed the entirety of the 2019/20 season so far after suffering an ACL injury in City’s Community Shield victory over Liverpool in August, but is now nearing a return to full fitness.
The winger signed for the Premier League champions from Schalke in 2016 and has won five major honours and the PFA Young Player of the Year award at the club, scoring 39 goals in 134 appearances in all competitions.
