Bayern Munich has not lost in 15 games in all competitions this season. They lead the Bundesliga table after recovering from three draws in four matches by beating SC Freiburg 3-1 last weekend. The Bavarians have Europe’s most dangerous attack, scoring 16 goals across their previous five games, but their defence has been less secure, letting in nine goals during that stretch.

Bayern Munich team news

Bayern Munich head into the DFB-Pokal game with major injury problems. Assistant coach Aaron Danks will take charge on the touchline because head coach Vincent Kompany is still recovering in hospital. Danks is expected to use a heavily changed “survivor’s lineup” to keep important players fresh before Der Klassiker.

Harry Kane, who recently won the Ballon d’Or, is fully fit after returning to training, although Bayern may decide to rest him. Manuel Neuer will miss the match because of irritation in a foot tendon, and Jamal Musiala is out with a torn thigh muscle; both players are hoping to return at the weekend.

Joshua Kimmich is unavailable as he is on special leave, while Luis Díaz will be sidelined for four to six weeks after suffering a muscle-bundle tear.

Aleksandar Pavlović and Kim Min-jae are also major doubts because of calf and groin problems, respectively. Bara Sapoko Ndiaye remains completely unavailable with a muscle injury, leaving Bayern with no choice but to make big tactical changes.
