Alphonso Davies is set to see out the final season of his contract at Bayern Munich and leave the club as a free agent in 2025.
The Canadian’s current contract expires next summer and Bayern have so far been reluctant to meet the salary demands of the defender.
Bayern’s stance during negotiations has increased the prospect of Davies leaving as a free agent and the 23-year-old will be free to negotiate with foreign sides over a pre-contract agreement in January.
Will Real Madrid sign Alphonso Davies?
Real Madrid hold a long-standing interest in signing Davies and have been heavily linked with signing the left-back this summer, though head coach Carlo Ancelotti has confirmed the club’s business is concluded for the current window.
Speaking after the club’s UEFA Super Cup win over Atalanta, Ancelotti said there will be no further signings for the European champions despite missing out on Leny Yoro to Manchester United and Eduardo Camavinga’s injury.
“No, our market is closed,” Ancelotti said.
“I will not ask for any other signing.”
Real Madrid could now wait until January and approach Davies over a deal to join the club as a free agent. It would follow the signing of David Alaba from Bayern in 2021 after his arrival on a Bosman.
An extension for Davies in Bavaria has not been ruled out but the lack of progress in negotiations over a new deal indicate an exit is likely next summer. Sky Germany are reporting that it has been internally agreed to allow Davies to enter the final season of his contract at the Allianz Arena.
