Bayern Munich move for Man United midfielder ‘wide of the mark’

Bayern Munich are not interested in a deal to sign Kobbie Mainoo from Manchester United at this time.

The German giants have been linked with a move to sign Mainoo, after it emerged that Manchester United would consider offers for the midfielder.

Mainoo’s status as a high-value academy product mean United will reluctantly consider significant proposals for the 19-year-old. Discussions over a contract renewal at Old Trafford have also reached a stand-off.

Chelsea are understood to be monitoring the situation closely, while Bayern have been tentatively linked with an approach. Despite those reports, Sky Germany have dismissed rumoured interest from the Bavarians who do not have Mainoo in their plans at this stage.

Ruben Amorim discussed Mainoo’s future at Manchester United last week and outlined his desire to keep the teenager. However, he admitted the club’s financial situation and need to remain compliant with Premier League PSR could lead to sales.

“Our idea is always to keep the best players and the players we build for this club,” said Amorim before the FA Cup trip to Arsenal on Sunday.

“But we know the position the club is in at the moment. We will see.”
