Bayern Munich have had an offer of €45m (£38.9m) rejected for Stuttgart striker Nick Woltemade.

Woltemade has informed Stuttgart of his desire to leave the club for Bayern but the opening proposal from the German champions has fallen short of the club’s valuation.

The 23-year-old has emerged as one of Europe’s most coveted forwards after a breakout season. Woltemade scored 17 goals in all competitions for Stuttgart last season and led the DFB-Pokal for goals as the German side won the tournament.

In the summer, he won the Golden Boot with six goals as Germany reached the final of the u-21 European Championship. He has netted 13 times in 18 caps for the u-21 side and made his senior debut for Germany in June.

Bayern Munich are desperate to improve their attacking options, which have been decimated by injuries and departures.

Thomas Muller, Mathys Tel and Leroy Sane have all left the Allianz Arena, while Jamal Musiala is facing at least four months out after suffering a broken leg and dislocated ankle at the Club World Cup.

Stuttgart are prepared to sell Woltemade, who only joined from Werder Bremen on a free transfer last summer.

However, Bayern’s bid falls below their asking price for the 6ft 6in attacker. German outlet BILD have revealed the proposal was ‘immediately rejected’ with an improved offer expected.

Woltemade has turned down interest from rival clubs and has informed Stuttgart he ‘only wants’ Bayern if he leaves this summer. Bayern also want to bring in a high-profile left-winger and continue to pursue Liverpool’s Luis Diaz.
