Barcelona welcome Real Madrid for the season’s opening El Clásico, with Hansi Flick’s side aiming to take all three points and extend their perfect La Liga record to 10 victories from 10 games.
Barcelona arrive in outstanding domestic shape, leading the La Liga standings after winning all nine of their league matches so far. Flick’s team have been extremely dangerous in front of goal, following up a 5-2 demolition of Real Betis with a comfortable 3-0 win over Getafe. Their only setback of the campaign came in midweek, though, as they were beaten 4-2 by Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League — their first defeat of the season.
Barcelona team news
Hansi Flick has several difficult selection decisions to make, especially across midfield and defence. The most notable loss is Dani Olmo, who will be out for roughly a month after suffering a left adductor injury during the match against Paris Saint-Germain.
Barcelona’s backline is also badly affected: Jules Koundé has been ruled out after failing to shake off the left ankle sprain he suffered against Real Betis.
Flick is further short of defensive cover, with Andreas Christensen sidelined by a thigh strain and Eric García unavailable because of a right thigh injury.
Roony Bardghji is also a long-term absentee after rupturing his ACL, leaving the league leaders dependent on their remaining key players to protect their position at the summit.
