Barcelona star signs new contract

Barcelona defender Javier Mascherano has signed a new three-year deal to keep him at the club until 2019.

The Argentine had been linked with a move to Italian Champions Juventus as a replacement for Paul Pogba, who seems set to leave the club.

However, the former West Ham and Liverpool midfielder has ended speculation regarding his future by signing the new deal at the Nou Camp.

The 32-year old moved to the Catalan club in 2012 initially as a midfielder, but after slotting in as defensive cover as a centre back, where he has since formed a formidable partnership with Spanish defender Gerard Pique.
