Barcelona increase Rodri offer as Man City talks continue

Barcelona have increased their offer for Manchester City midfielder Rodri as negotiations over a potential transfer continue, with the Spanish club keen to reach an agreement quickly.

Barcelona have increased their offer for Manchester City midfielder Rodri as negotiations over a potential transfer continue, with the Spanish club keen to reach an agreement quickly.

According to Sport, Barcelona have raised their proposal to €60 million (£51.4m) after their initial offer of €45m plus €10m in potential add-ons fell well short of City’s valuation.

The Catalan club are understood to be keen to avoid prolonged negotiations and remain optimistic that an agreement can be reached. However, City are reportedly looking for a package closer to €70m, having initially valued the 30-year-old at around €80m.

The two clubs remain in contact as they attempt to narrow the gap between their respective valuations. Sport reports that Barcelona’s latest proposal has not yet been finalised in terms of the split between guaranteed and performance-related payments.

Rodri is reportedly keen on a move to Barcelona, while the Catalan club see him as a major addition to Hansi Flick’s squad for the 2026-27 season.

The midfielder has been at Manchester City since joining from Atletico Madrid in 2019 and has established himself as one of the Premier League’s leading midfielders. He also won the Ballon d’Or in 2024.

Barcelona’s latest move comes after City rejected an initial offer of around £38.5m last week. Recent reporting from the UK indicates that City would consider selling Rodri but want significantly more than Barcelona’s opening proposal.

The negotiations therefore remain ongoing, with Barcelona hoping their improved offer can bring the two clubs closer to an agreement.
