Barcelona consider Araujo sale to fund move for Premier League star

Barcelona are considering the sale of Ronald Araujo this summer as the club look to raise funds for their transfer business.

Araujo has been linked with several of Europe’s elite clubs and Bayern Munich, Chelsea and Manchester United are all credited with interest in the centre-back, who is valued at around €100m at the Camp Nou.

The 25-year-old has been an integral part of Xavi’s plans this season, though the emergence of Pau Cubarsi from La Masis has shifted the Spanish side’s stance on Araujo’s future.

The sale of the Uruguay international could bring in much-needed funds for the Catalan club to invest and Sport are reporting that Liverpool’s Luis Diaz is near the top of their wish list.

Diaz has scored 13 goals in all competitions this season after recovering from the injury issues that plagued him last term and has featured in a regular role on the left wing for Jurgen Klopp.

However, the Colombian is understood to be open to a potential move to Spain, with the player’s father having said the 27-year-old ‘hasn’t given up hope’ of a future transfer to La Liga.

“There was never anything serious with Real Madrid or Atlético,” Diaz senior told Cadena Ser in March.

“Liverpool were always more determined and concrete to sign Luis. We haven’t lost our hope yet… Luis is playing well and Spanish clubs are always active in the market.”

Barcelona’s focus for the summer is a central midfielder and forward option, and the Catalans want to sign Guido Rodríguez on a free transfer from Real Betis in the former role.

The arrival of the Argentine as a free agent would free further funds to spend on an attacker, with Liverpool likely to be reluctant to Diaz’s sale.
