Highly respected Spanish football expert Guillem Balague has revealed in his latest column for Sky Sports that Real Madrid maintain a strong interest in bringing Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois to the Bernabeu this summer.
The current Champions League holders had also been heavily linked with a move for Athletic Bilbao shot stopper Kepa Arrizabalaga, although he has now signed a new deal with the Basque club.
Balague reports that Belgium international Courtois now has three choices; extend his current deal with Chelsea that runs until 2019, or sign for either Real Madrid or French side PSG.
Whichever option the 25-year-old picks he is set to become the world’s highest paid goalkeeper. Although PSG are said to have put more groundwork into securing his services, it is thought the player would prefer a move to Madrid.
Courtois spent three successful season’s playing for Real’s city rivals Atletico earlier in his career, and he has always admitted he fell in love with the Spanish lifestyle during his time there.
Chelsea will of course be hopeful that the talented Belgian chooses to stay in London, and build on the success he has had since becoming the club’s number one in the 2014/2015 season. Since taking over duties between the sticks from club legend Petr Cech, The Blues have won two Premier League titles during his three full seasons.
Courtois is not the only Chelsea player said to be on Real’s radar with Los Blancos, also heavily linked with a summer move for mercurial playmaker Eden Hazard.
