Aubameyang: We want to reach Europa League final

Pierre Emerick Aubameyang has said that Arsenal want to reach the Europa League final following their opening day victory.

Aubameyang moved from Dortmund to Arsenal back in January, but was unable to play in their run to the Europa League semi-finals due to a bizarre quirk in the rules surrounding being cup-tied, despite not having featured in the competition earlier in the season.

However, with Arsenal getting this year’s Europa League campaign underway with a 4-2 win over Vorskla Poltava at the Emirates, Aubameyang has said they want to go at least one better this time round:

“I think we played well in the first half and in the beginning of the second as well. We have to improve and try to fight not to concede a goal like we did in the last minute,” the Gabon international told BT Sport.

“I didn’t play the Europa League last year with the guys so I am really happy to be back in this competition. We want to go to the final of course.

“I hope we can do well in the next few games. We know the Premier League is long. We have to win these games straight away and perform quickly. It is good to start with a win.”

Victory in the Europa League does of course mean qualification for next seasons Champions League.
