Atletico Madrid head to Valencia on Saturday to take on Levante away from home, hoping to extend their impressive La Liga run and climb to the summit of the standings.
Diego Simeone’s men arrive in outstanding form, having won their last six league fixtures. They currently occupy second place, only two points behind Barcelona at the top. Their most recent outing saw them secure a narrow 1-0 win over Deportivo de La Coruña, with Julián Alvarez scoring the decisive goal. Across all competitions, the team has shown a strong blend of defensive discipline and effective attacking play.
Atletico Madrid team news
Simeone has both setbacks and welcome news within his squad. Captain Koke is still out with a persistent hamstring problem, while Johnny Cardoso remains unavailable as he recovers from a thigh strain; both midfielders are expected back around the start of November.
However, the back line gets a significant lift with Cristian “Cuti” Romero fit again after overcoming an adductor injury, making him a possible starter.
Up front, the in-form Julián Alvarez is likely to lead the attack, with Álex Baena expected to provide creativity from midfield.
