Swansea City’s transfer plans have been dealt a blow as Atletico Madrid will make a move to sign Roque Mesa from Las Palmas.
Swansea were believed to be closing in on a deal worth around £10m for the 28-year-old, but reports in Spain claim that the La Liga giants are set to make an even better and more attractive offer.
According to AS, the Rojiblancos will offer Las Palmas €15m for Mesa. However as they are unable to complete the registration of any players until January, they are also willing to send the midfielder back on loan to the Gran Canadian club, something which of course will be an attractive option for the La Liga side. They are also willing to include Alessio Cerci as part of the deal.
Whether or not this is all enough to stop Mesa’s move to the Liberty Stadium is yet to be seen, or if he will indeed remain in Spain.
Mesa made the sicond highest number of passes in La Liga last season, second only to former Stoke City midfielder Steven N’Zonzi at Sevilla. He scored one goal in 35 league appearance.
