Atletico Madrid join race for Man City’s Grealish

Atletico Madrid are considering a move for Manchester City winger Jack Grealish, with Everton and Aston Villa also exploring a deal for the England international this summer.

Atletico Madrid are considering a move for Manchester City winger Jack Grealish, with Everton and Aston Villa also exploring a deal for the England international this summer.

According to The Sun, Diego Simeone’s side are monitoring the 30-year-old after identifying him as a player whose work rate and tactical discipline would suit Atletico’s style of play. However, the Spanish club are yet to make a formal move and face competition from Premier League rivals.

Grealish’s future at the Etihad Stadium has become increasingly uncertain after he missed City’s pre-season tour of Hong Kong and South Korea, despite returning to training following his recovery from a foot injury.

Everton are also understood to be keen on bringing Grealish back after his loan spell last season, with the Merseyside club reportedly viewing another temporary move as an attractive option.

Aston Villa, meanwhile, have discussed the possibility of re-signing their former captain, who left Villa Park for Manchester City in a then-British record £100 million transfer in 2021.

The report adds that Grealish has been training with Spanish side RCD Mallorca to maintain his fitness while his representatives assess his options ahead of the new campaign.

Interest has also emerged from Saudi Arabia, where Al-Hilal, Al-Ahli and Neom are all said to have made enquiries. Major League Soccer clubs are also reportedly monitoring the situation, believing Grealish would be a strong commercial fit.

For now, Atletico’s interest remains at an exploratory stage, with the club already well stocked in wide attacking positions. Any move could also depend on Grealish accepting a reduced role in Simeone’s squad.

Manchester City have yet to indicate whether they are willing to sanction the winger’s departure, leaving his future unresolved as the transfer window enters its final weeks.
