Atletico Madrid closing in on €40m Morata replacement

Atletico Madrid are closing in on the signing of Artem Dovbyk from La Liga rivals Girona.

Dovbyk has agreed personal terms with the Spanish side with the two teams in negotiations over the structure of the transfer, with Atletico informing Girona of their willingness to meet the Ukrainian’s €40m (£33.6m) release clause.

The 26-year-old became the first non-Real Madrid or Barcelona player in 15 years to win the Pichichi Trophy as La Liga’s leading scorer in 2023-24, scoring 24 times to fire Girona to a shock Champions League qualification.

Dovbyk’s form attracted interest from England and Italy, with Napoli particularly keen, though Atletico are nearing a deal to ensure the forward remains in Spanish football.

Fabrizio Romano is reporting an agreement is imminent as Atletico close in on a replacement for Alvaro Morata. Spaoin’s Euro 2024-winning captain has left Diego Simeone’s side to join AC Milan, while Memphis Depay has also departed Atleti as a free agent.
