Athletic Bilbao are interested in signing Arsenal defender Nacho Monreal. Bilbao named Jose Angel Ziganda as their new boss last week following the departure of Ernesto Valverde.

The Daily Mail have reported that Ziganda is keen on a reunion with Monreal. He has previously coached the 31-year-old at youth level and gave him his first-team La Liga debut at Osasuna.

Monreal has been impressive towards the end of the season and is Arsenal’s first choice left back, ahead of Kieran Gibbs. This could mean that he is unlikely to leave unless he forces a move.

The Spaniard has been at Arsenal for four years and made 43 appearances in all competitions this season, only one as a substitute.

However, the Gunners are expected to sign Schalke left back Sead Kolasinac on a free transfer so there would be cover if Monreal does leave.
