Aston Villa will be aiming to build momentum when Southampton arrive at Villa Park on Saturday.
Unai Emery’s side ended their winless run with an impressive 3-1 victory over Brentford in midweek and next entertain the struggling Saints. The win on Wednesday night lifted Villa up to eighth in the Premier League table, with six points separating Emery’s side from the Champions League places.
Southampton arrive in the Midlands on the back of a heavy defeat to Chelsea. Russell Martin’s side lost 5-1 to the free-scoring Blues at St Mary’s to continue their tough start since promotion.
Bottom-of-the-table Southampton have won just once in their opening 14 games, while only Wolves have conceded more goals. No side has scored less than their 11 goals with the club’s leading scorers – which include ex-Villa forward Cameron Archer – having netted just twice in the league this season.

Unai Emery will be hoping to have Amadou Onana back in his squad with the Belgium international in contention to make the bench. Onana has not featured since before November’s international break due to a foot problem. Jacob Ramsey remains sidelined with a hamstring injury.
The Spaniard will decide on whether to rotate his team after midweek action. Ian Maatsen, Pau Torres and Jhon Duran will be hoping for minutes after starting the win over Brentford from the bench.
