Aston Villa host Fulham at Villa Park on Saturday evening, looking to win three Premier League matches in a row.
Unai Emery’s side have been transformed since the turn of the season, following a historical pattern of hitting their stride in October and November, and sit ninth in the table after a 2-1 win over Manchester City last weekend in which Nicolas Jackson scored twice.
Villa’s seven-match unbeaten run across all competitions ended on Wednesday with a 3-0 EFL Cup defeat at Bournemouth, a much-rotated loss Emery has been keen to move on from quickly. Emery’s side have won eight of their last 10 matches in October and November in recent seasons, compared with just two of their previous 12 fixtures across August and September.
Aston Villa team news
Amadou Onana remains a long-term absentee with an ACL injury, while Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Matteo Ruggeri both still need further weeks to recover from hamstring and thigh problems respectively. There are no fresh fitness concerns elsewhere in the squad, and Emery is expected to revert to the same lineup that started the win over City, with Matty Cash, Victor Lindelof and Pau Torres all returning in defence.
Jackson, who has scored four goals in his last four league games and seven in 11 appearances since joining Villa in the summer, is set to continue up front ahead of 17-year-old Brian Madjo, with John McGinn and Alysson offering support from wide areas. Emery has an outstanding record against Saturday’s opponents, winning eight of his nine Premier League meetings with Fulham. No doubts have been reported elsewhere in Emery’s squad ahead of kick-off.
